What does it take to become part of the team at Supporting Your Life?
Working for SYL taught me the importance of patience, connectedness and communication. I feel that I'm achieving goals for participants no matter how small, I'm honoured to support others and have a team that is always available to support me.
- Emilia S
Throughout working at SYL I’ve loved seeing participants increase their capacity to achieve their goals. I’ve enjoyed working with all the SYL team, with their guidance, my skills as a mental health support worker have increased immensely.
- Ruby P
The individual participant gets to shine, the impossible can be made possible and choice and control become the norm.
Acceptance, empowerment and encouragement are the core practices of SYL Support Workers.
The participant and support workers get to learn from each other and together we make positive changes that matter, no matter how big or small the changes, they matter.
SYL is totally about person centered planning and practices, as it always should be.
- Janet MC

Being a part of the Supporting Your Life team is incredibly fulfilling. The organisation’s commitment to fostering a supportive and uplifting environment has allowed me to deliver impactful assistance to individuals facing mental health challenges. It is a privilege to contribute to a team that genuinely values the well-being of both participants and staff.

I find it satisfying working in a role that helps others increase their psychological and social capacity. Working as a Mental Health Support Worker with SYL provides this opportunity and SYL focus on supporting me in my role.
- Brett A
Since starting with SYL in June 2022, I’ve learnt and grown so much, undertaken rewarding challenges, and met amazing people who genuinely care – not just about the people they work with but the quality of their work. It can feel like a very isolating industry to work in at times, but SYL has always strived to increase participation and connection with its employees. Overall working with SYL has been a great opportunity for self-learning and improvement with a team of wonderful people who inspire and support every day.
